Veszprém Castle is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Several religious and scholarly institutions are located within the castle district. Entering through Heroes' Gate, you’ll find many sights, including St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Holy Trinity Statue, statues of King Stephen and Queen Gisela, and St. George Chapel. The only tower of the castle stands at the end of the Veszprém Castle, rising 48 meters high. Its cylindrical part, built from broken stone, is likely medieval, with its entrance facing the castle interior. From its circular balcony, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of Veszprém’s districts – a must for photography lovers. The clock in the late Baroque style tower plays Antal Csermák’s verbunkos (military recruitment) music every hour.

Sculptor Mihály Kolodkó’s three works are located in the City of Queens. Ernő, the castle guard, stands at the Heroes' Gate. You’ll find Ödön, the street musician, at the beginning of Kossuth Lajos Street, while Leonóra and the Lion are located on Kollégium Street.

Step through the gate of the Veszprém Dungeon and discover the daily lives of prisoners, tales of outlaws, secrets of executioners, and history locked within the walls. Located on the northern side of the castle, behind St. Michael’s Cathedral, you can reach St. Benedict Hill via the Castle Stairs. This was the burial site of our conquering ancestors. From the hill, you’ll see the city’s red-roofed houses, and a stairway leads down to Séd Valley.

The porch-style farmhouse next to Laczkó Dezső Museum is the earliest open-air ethnographic museum in Transdanubia. Preserving old values, it now offers a modern experience. Guided tours enriched with images, light, and sound effects help visitors understand life in the house and the role of various objects.

From 22-meter-high Queen Gisela Lookout on Gulya Hill, you’ll enjoy a unique panorama of Veszprém and the surrounding hills. The highest viewing platform is 17.5 meters high, and its height and structure will challenge those with a fear of heights. Next to the lookout, rest and fire pit areas await hikers.
