56[ ]26 / The Shadow of the Blind Spot / Exhibition Opening Featuring Katharina Roters and József Szolnoki

“These self-contained micro-stories are reinterpreted as elements of the larger narrative. A window opens through which we can cast a cautious glance at the battlefield between an individual’s imagination and the will of ideology, on the battlefield where a pattern of collective historical amnesia takes shape.”

Katharina Roters and József Szolnoki began collaborating in the early 2000s on research-based works to examine the often contradictory patterns of individual and collective memory—and, within that, forgetting in particular. The 2016 Hack the Past! exhibition in Győr—which incorporated elements of reenactment and public interventions—and was later presented as the concluding element of a series of works further developed at the 2019 MODEM Wunderblock exhibition. The Veszprém exhibition was created to mark the 70th anniversary.
