An evening with cellist Felicián Kalmus, when the fairy-tale world of waltzes returns to the palace…
Imagine yourself in the captivating world of the turn of the century: lights slowly come on in the grand halls of the palabe, amidst the colorful whirl of the ball, the rustling of dresses, quiet conversations, and graceful movements take shape. The space fills with anticipation, and when the music begins, everything becomes timeless for a moment.
Ball at the Palace is a special concert series that comes to life in the grand halls of Hungary’s most beautiful palaces, evoking the elegance of old-world balls, with an atmosphere that is by turns solemn and playful. Cellist and composer Felicia Kalmus’s waltz-centered repertoire draws from the classical tradition but speaks with a very contemporary musical sensibility.
The evening will feature not only well-known waltzes, naturally with the unique twists characteristic of Felicián, but also Felicián’s own compositions, as well as contemporary and unexpected pieces that one might not immediately think belong to this genre— yet they fit naturally into the repertoire. Here, waltz is not merely a form, but movement, rhythm, and mood: a musical mindset that connects the past and the present.
The unique spaces of the palaces do not merely provide a venue for the concert: their acoustics, history, and atmosphere breathe in perfect harmony with the music. Every concert is different and unrepeatable, as the specific space, the unique melodies, and the moment come together. Ball at the Palace is an evening where the elegance of the past and the creative power of the present come together— in a pulsating, sweeping current that sweeps you away and stays with you for a long time to come.
Ball at the Palace is for those who love elegance, spaces that tell stories, and those rare occasions when the past is not a memory but a source of inspiration— —as a living, breathing experience.
