From Badacsony, we set out to explore the Kál Basin. The Kál Basin is one of the most unique landscapes of the Balaton Uplands, where almost every turn reveals something new to discover.
Starting from the center of Badacsony, we’ll turn onto the charming Roman Road, where, as we drive along, we can see the vineyards and wineries on the hillside, while the iconic view of Szigliget Castle unfolds before us.
Our journey continues through Nemesgulács, up toward Kápálantóti, and, emerging from behind Badacsony, we arrive in the world of the surrounding hills: where we are greeted by the sights of Szent György Hill, Csobánc, and Gulács. This unique panorama reappears at several points along our tour from the lookout points of the Kál Basin. Along the way, we’ll pass by one of Lake Balaton’s most famous farmers’ markets, Liliomkert; if we’re cycling this way on the weekend, we’ll pop in for a look.
We’ll continue our tour through the highlights of the Kál Basin: passing through Mindszentkálla and Szentbékálla, we’ll ride among the charming wine cellars of Öreg-hegy, while the breathtaking panorama of the countryside unfolds before us. Upon arriving in Köveskál, and then passing through Kővágóörs, we head up toward Kékkút and refresh ourselves at the famous Theodora Spring.
Then, we ride back toward Badacsony among the thatched-roof houses characteristic of the Balaton Uplands.
With the help of our electric bikes, we climb up to the Badacsony ridge, where, as we pass Folly Arboretum, one of Lake Balaton’s most beautiful panoramas unfolds before us.
From there, all that awaits us is a pleasant ride back along the tour’s original route, the famous Roman Road, where we can fittingly end the day at a charming terrace serving spritzer.
