Ten suitable carving course on Bakony shepherd carving and Szentgál artisan carving, led by woodcarver Milán Kropf.
The course is recommended for beginners and those interested in carving (aged 12 and above).

The first three sessions will focus on the basics. Participants will learn about three different types of tools and their uses. These include chisels with curved and straight blades, as well as gouges. We start with a trial carving, during which we practice safe tool use, holding the tool, and various grips, while learning the basics of carving. This is followed by learning about materials. Through carving a lubricated piece of wood, we learn how the grain of the wood influences the direction of carving when shaping it.

In the fourth session, we will focus on tool maintenance and sharpening techniques.

The second half of the course begins with actual carving. We will carve a handle with a convex carving technique. In the process, we will use what we have learned so far on an object and begin to familiarize ourselves with the form and meaning of the Bakony (Szentgál) pattern collection.

At the end of the course, depending on the time remaining, participants can choose between three types of objects to make, depending on their skill level and individual preferences: a carved stick, a box, or a pen holder.

The master will provide the necessary wood and tools for the duration of the course.
The course will start if at least 8 people sign up.
