In this cult Danish movie directed by Anders Thomas Jensen and released in 2005, the main character, Adam—who adheres to extreme principles— Adam, is sentenced to 12 weeks of community service. He must serve his sentence in the community of the kind-hearted priest, Ivan. The group, made up entirely of odd characters, looks at the newcomer with curiosity and openness. They entrust him with the care of the apple tree, the pride of the rectory garden, and ask him to bake an apple tart from its fruit. But despite Adam’s determination, the most diverse and fateful obstacles arise to thwart their plan. Ivan believes the devil is playing tricks on them, but Adam insists it’s all God’s doing, and that perhaps evil doesn’t even exist.

Mads Mikkelsen’s performance, the movie’s peculiar humor, and the script’s unique twists made for a memorable box-office hit when it was first released. For the 2026 re-release, the movie will be shown in theaters from a digital copy. (Cirko Film)
