The „&Signs of Life – Church Communities in the Late 1960s”

For many people, the 1960s are associated with a sense of (relative) freedom, while broad segments of society faced a lack of freedom, persecution, discrimination, and manipulation. This was also the case for church youth communities that found themselves in the crosshairs of this ideological struggle. Our publication examines the scenes of the “struggle for souls,” illustrating the functioning of the dictatorial one-party state regime. The successive chapters highlight that in the implementation of political decisions, state authorities, educational and cultural institutions, as well as propaganda tools and the secret services, all played a key role. The portraits featured in our thematic overview present life stories that serve as exemplary responses to these challenges.

The book will be presented during a lecture by:

Dr. Viktor Attila Soós

church historian and university professor.

member of the National Remembrance Committee (NEB)
