The Alchemy of Glass - A Selection from the Estate Collection of Zoltán Bohus and Mária Lugossy

To two leading figures in contemporary Hungarian glass art, Zoltán Bohus and Mária Lugossy: Laczkó Dezső Museum’s new exhibition, featuring the unique, one-of-a-kind works of Zoltán Bohus and Mária Lugossy, opens on November 20, 2025.

The exhibition’s title refers to the virtuoso technical skill that, in a groundbreaking way, was able to transform everydayflat sheets of glass into works of fine art with sculptural qualities. Although the artist couple has not created a single joint work, their individual creative paths intersect at several points.

Both of their bodies of work were characterized by the technological process of cold glass, and both were driven by the aspiration to capture abstract concepts such as space and time, enclosed in glass, with the help of the material’s changing, internal transparency. Both are innovators in contemporary glass art, thanks to whom Hungarian glass art has gained international renown.
