Overview
We warmly welcome all interested guests to the screening of the film The Future at the Gate, organized jointly by MCC Veszprém and the Danube Institute, and the discussion that follows.
Participants in the discussion: Edith Dócza, senior analyst at the Migration Research Institute, and Gergely Dobozi, the film’s producer.
Moderator: Zsófia Rácz, Head of Communications at the Danube Institute.
The Danube Institute presents The Future at the Gate, a 45-minute, thought-provoking documentary that examines how illegal immigration is reshaping Europe and what role is played by those standing at the continent’s gates.
The film focuses on the “gatekeepers” : countries, institutions, communities, and people who make decisive decisions day after day. Who is allowed to enter? What opinions are given a voice? What kind of society is taking shape before our eyes?
The documentary highlights that these decisions are not merely theoretical questions, but have direct and serious consequences that are closely intertwined with Europe’s cultural future. It demonstrates how openness can foster diversity and new opportunities, while also posing the question: in what direction is this change heading, and what price must be paid for it?
The Future at the Gate sends a clear message: the future does not await us somewhere on the distant horizon, but is already taking shape. And for Hungary, which has long been committed to protecting its cultural identity, the stakes have perhaps never been higher.
