Where To Go From Here, Veszprém-Balaton Region? A Professional Conference on the Region’s Future

What makes a city or region a place where it’s good to live, work, and create? What role do tourism, culture, and collaboration play in this? How can we build on the experiences of the Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture program, and what legacy is worth carrying forward?

On October 12, 2026, at the joint professional conference of Balaton Tourism Research Institute, operating within the Faculty of Economics at the University of Pannonia, and Veszprém-Balaton 2023  we will seek answers based on domestic and international examples, and the latest research findings.

The conference’s international speaker is Charlotta Mellander (professor of economics at Jönköping University in Sweden), whose research focuses, among other things, on the creative sector, as well as the role of creative individuals and businesses in regional development.

She is known worldwide as a researcher in urban development, regional attractiveness, and creativity. In her presentations, she uniquely combines hard economic indicators, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit with “soft” values such as openness, tolerance, and human happiness.

Participants can gain firsthand insight into the latest findings from research examining the long-term effects of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 program series, as well as gain insight into the Faculty of Economics’ international projects related to tourism.

The professional program also provides an opportunity for knowledge sharing, collaborative thinking, and networking among professionals involved in Lake Balaton tourism and regional development. 

The event also serves as a local partner meeting for the Interreg Europe ECoC ECHO project.
