Ferences Sports Hall, Dám Károly Arena

One of Szentendre’s most modern facilities is located in the heart of the town center: Ferences Sports Hall (also known as Dám Károly Arena), which, since its opening in 2021, has been the region’s leading sports and community center.

History and Mission

The arena waspart of the development project for Szentendre Franciscan High School, with an investment of approximately 2 billion forints. The building was handed over in October 2021 with the aim of providing modern sports facilities not only for the school’s students, but also to serve as a public space open to local sports clubs and the general public.

Services and Facilities

The multifunctional design of Ferences Sports Hall allows it to host a wide range of sports and events:

• Playing Field: a court covering more than 1,100 square meters, covered with professional sports flooring, suitable for basketball, handball, volleyball, and futsal matches.
• Mirror Room: small group classes, such as aerobics, zumba, rhythmic gymnastics, and various dance classes.
• Facilities: modern changing rooms, barrier-free access, and an on-site cafeteria ensure comfort.
• Rental options: both the large and small rooms of the facility can be rented for individual or group training sessions and events.
• Seating and Spectator Area: the hall features a spacious and bright interior, and the playing area consists of fixed and mobile elements . Although the exact number of spectators depends on the event, the facility is also suitable for hosting major town and regional sporting events. Visitor feedback highlights the professional scoreboard, though it’s worth noting the steeper stairs in the stands.
• Competitions and Local Teams: the arena is home to numerous clubs from Szentendre and the surrounding area, so league matches are regularly held here:
  • Home matches: among others, Czája Mátyás Ferences Diák Sports Club (CMFDSE),  Szentendre Basketball Association, and Szentendre Kinizsi Honvéd SE hold their practices and matches here.
  • Sports: handball, basketball, futsal, and volleyball tournaments, and the arena also serves as a youth training center.
  • Useful tip for visitors: Dám Károly Arena is located on Áprily Lajos Square. Parking is limited directly in front of the building, but paid parking is available nearby.
