Introduction

Lókút lies in the Higher Bakony region, which is covered with forests and dotted with hills and valleys. The area was already inhabited 2,500-3,000 years ago, during the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, and the current settlement was established in the 18th century, in 1758-1759 by settling Roman Catholic Slovak families here, and then developed further with German and Hungarian settlers.

Among the sights, several points of the settlement's history can be listed: the 19th-century Marton-Zámori mansion with its Kossuth memorial plaque and the related story from 1849, the Cholera Cross, the monument erected on the 50th anniversary of the deportation pf German Hungarians, the World War memorial, and the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk.
