Introduction

Monostorapáti is located in the Balaton Uplands, near Tapolca, in the valley of the Eger Stream. The name of the settlement is linked to the Benedictine abbey on the outskirts, near the former village of Almád, the ruins of which can still be seen today, and is believed to have been founded in 1117. The highlight of the built heritage is the parish church of St. John of Nepomuk, which was built between 1752 and 1759, with a tower built in the 1850s and of a height of 40 meters.

Local life is also shaped by viticulture and winemaking, forestry, animal husbandry, and village hospitality, while cultural traditions include carnival celebrations, church fairs and harvest parades, and since 1996, the settlement has also been associated with the Valley of Arts series of events.
