Statue of Mary Immaculate
In the town’s main square, the statue of the Virgin Mary stands atop a globe resting on a Doric column. It was erected in 1822 by Duke Fülöp Batthyány-Strattmann in memory of his parents.
The statue was created by Johann Martin Fischer in the year of his death, 1820. Its halo was illuminated by the town in tribute to Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann.
The putto standing at Mary’s feet was shot to pieces by Soviet soldiers after World War II; the statue was reconstructed in 2011.
